PROJECT OVERVIEW
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Meta Moto created the award-winning FRED, an Augmented Reality prototype for Hunter Water to showcase 3D, 4D, and 5D digital asset inspection. Focused on the Lochinvar Treatment Plant, the tool visualised component assemblies, time-based sequences, and cost overlays, enhancing executive understanding and frontline skills. FRED fostered organisation-wide engagement with digital engineering principles.

The Challenge
The Challenge
Many utilities struggle to translate abstract digital ideas into practical applications. Without hands-on tools, building understanding or changing established cultures is challenging. Digital engineering must be experienced firsthand. Visualisation tools that display real-time operations, lifecycle costs, and spatial-temporal installation steps can significantly accelerate learning and adoption.

WHAT WE DID
WHAT WE DID
Meta Moto developed an immersive AR experience that combines photorealistic rendering, animated assembly sequences, and overlays showing costs and time. FRED visualised pump installations, operational flows, and 3D-printed parts - demonstrating how digital engineering supports proactive maintenance. The prototype helped with executive training, boardroom discussions, and operator workshops to position Hunter Water as a forward-thinking utility embracing digital leadership.

Extended Reality (XR) is redefining how organisations see, understand, and interact with infrastructure. Meta Moto’s award-winning FRED application, developed with Hunter Water, demonstrates how XR transforms safety, training, asset maintenance, and stakeholder engagement.
The photos above show some FRED demonstrations captured within Florence’s famous Palazzo Pitti, where Renaissance masters first translated the three-dimensional world of human experience onto a two-dimensional canvas through the invention of perspective. XR extends this legacy, turning smartphones into portals that bring complex 3D systems to life - interactive, navigable, and intuitively grasped.
This is more than just visualisation, it is a fundamental shift in how knowledge can be shared and decisions in the future will be made. XR helps boards and field staff alike see not just what is, but what could be. Meta Moto enables you to lead this cultural transformation from the front.
